garden junk art girl

Garden Art

I saw some ghost garden art made out of chicken wire on Pinterest awhile back and I kept that idea kicking around for a while. I wanted to make a garden girl…but how?

Then in one of my creative moments (more like a wave that went for an entire weekend)….I came across an extra pink tomato cage and decided something artful

and garden-ish had to be made from it.

So I did another search and grabbed an unused wire hanging basket. After a few tries, I found that these fit together pretty good to make a bustle skirt form….I just needed a torso.

So…I grabbed my mannequin ( used for sewing projects ) and wrapped her up in a black garbage bag to protect her from any damage….that chicken wire can be pokey.

Okay, so I wrapped a big square around her and just cut away the wire and wrapped, cut and wrapped until the form took on. Then I unwrapped the wire to remove it from the mannequin which was a store clearance item…so she’s not adjustable. Once I got the wire off, I formed the shape by hand.

Now for the dress. Pink tomato cage….check. Bustle? Lets grab that wire moss basket and give it a coat of paint like the bust.

Time to get stuffed. I decided to use only moss. Yes, next year I may just cover her in flowers, but this spring was horrible so, she will have a

living green top.

Once she had her moss I placed her on the stacked and inverted tomato cage and wire basket skirt. Perfect since the bottom spokes of the tomato cage went through her moss bodice and added the support she needed to stay still on that dress. Hmm… Where shall she go?

Why call her Lady Magellanica? Well….for a couple of weeks my hubs and I called her….’The girl’. She needed a name and since I put her skirt over top of my Fuchsia Magellanica ‘Aurea’, you get the idea. I thought about Lady Grace as this plant is from the Onagraceace family.….but I like my choice.

Now imagine as I make this announcement to my husband when he got home from work….” Honey, the girl has a name now ” ….

‘okay? what?” ( not interested but curious enough to bite)

“Lady Magellanica”……pause….

“What??”  ( laughing and shaking of head )

Can someone please tell me what is so funny about that? Girls gotta have a name….right?
