St. Patrick’s Day Mini Garden
Fairies and gnomes are regulars of mini gardens, but what about Leprechauns? I decided to celebrate this holiday dedicated to the color green by making something… green!
Check out all the details that went into this St. Patrick’s Day Mini Garden.
I bought most of these items at the dollar store. The modeling clay brick, mini wood house, the colored sand and the green basin only cost me about $6.
I painted the house and added some moss to the roof and pebbles around the door.
Then I used the clay to create create mini mushrooms and some little green shamrocks. I made them onto toothpicks to make them easier to stick into my mini garden. For the shamrocks, I used a straw to make 3 circles, then I pressed them together to create a tri-leaf stem.
OK, now for the main character! I actually looked for a mini Leprecheun but I couldn’t find one so I had to create him. I have a confession to make, I haven’t used modeling clay since I was a little girl… but I kinda liked it!
I mean, just look at how cool my little dude turned out! I made his hat out of paper and his little hoe from a toothpick.
Once my props were made, I filled the bottom of the green basin with pebbles for drainage and a good bagged potting mix.
There was only room for a couple of plants and being that this is so early in the year, not all the garden centers in my area are open yet so I made do with the couple of plants I could find.
The sign and picket fence were made out of Popsicle sticks. I used my wood burning tool to write out Shamrock patch.
I had this adorable little incense pot that was perfect for a pot of gold! I simply filled it with yellow cake sprinkles… but if you can find mini gold pebbles, they would be better.
The pathway is the green crystalized sand I got from the dollar store. And the colored moss is available at garden centers. One bag will go a long way for all your projects so I recommend you get a few colors especially for mini gardens.
I’m pretty happy with how my St. Patrick’s Day Mini Garden Turned out!
May your troubles be less and your blessings be more
And nothing but happiness come through your door.
